We will not guess from a photo, and we will not put a number on it until somebody has looked.

A soffit is a hard place to be sure of anything
- The flat board fixed under a roof overhang, often painted, sometimes with small vents cut into it.
- Fascias and bargeboards nearby are sometimes the same material as the soffit, sometimes not.
- Cement sheet and asbestos insulating board look near enough identical once painted, especially from ground level.
- There is no reliable way to tell the two apart from a photograph taken from the garden.

What does an asbestos soffit look like?
Usually a flat, rigid board fixed under the roof overhang, often painted white or cream and sometimes vented. That look does not distinguish cement sheet from asbestos insulating board, which is exactly why we look rather than guess.
Can I paint over an asbestos soffit?
Painting undamaged board in place is generally lower risk than disturbing it, but it depends what the material actually is and its condition. Ask us before you start rather than after, particularly if you plan to sand or prepare the surface first.
How much does it cost to remove an asbestos soffit?
We do not put a number on this one without seeing it first, for the reasons on this page. Once someone has looked, you get a real answer, not a guess.
Is it safe to leave an asbestos soffit in place?
If it is intact and nobody is drilling, sanding or knocking it about, the fibres are bound in and are not being released. Damage and disturbance are what change that, not simply its presence under your roofline.
Can I remove an asbestos soffit myself?
There is no law stopping a householder doing their own work, but a soffit is a poor place to discover you have guessed wrong about the material, and the waste is hazardous once it is down. We would rather you had someone look first.
