The buildings that usually have it
It is the material we meet most often on garages, sheds, stables and outbuildings on properties of every kind, from terraces in Chelmsford and garages in Basildon to smallholdings out toward Southend and the coast. Most of it is sound: bound into the cement and not releasing anything while it stays whole. The work is deciding, case by case, whether that is still true of yours.
What Essex County Council will and will not take
This is the part most people get wrong, so it is worth setting out plainly before anything else.

- Essex County Council does not accept asbestos at any of its recycling centres, and it is not taken at the kerbside either.
- The alternative
- The council instead runs what it calls a subsidised household collection, available every financial year, booked through its own request form. Subsidised, not free: it does not publish the figure.

We are not the council and cannot book its collection for you. If what you have is small and bonded, that route may cover it without needing us at all, and we would rather tell you that than take the job.
Still up, or already down
Still on the building
A roof, a shed side, a run of gutter or a ceiling that is still fixed in place. That is removal: we take it down whole where we can, wrap it on site and carry it away.
Already down and stacked
Sheets someone has already taken off and left in the garden or the garage. That is collection, and it costs less than a full removal job because the hardest part is already done.

Cement, coatings, tiles and the more delicate materials too
We take on cement sheeting, Artex, floor tiles, gutters and water tanks directly. Sprayed coatings, pipe or boiler lagging and asbestos insulating board need more care, and some of it needs a licensed contractor. We will tell you which, and what to look for in one. Soffits and anything in a loft do not get a price over the phone either, because cement sheet and insulating board look identical there until someone has actually looked.

Do you only work in Essex?
No. Essex is where we are based and where most of our work happens, but we also cover Kent and east and south east London from the same one base in Grays.
Is it against the law to take asbestos to a tip in Essex?
Not in those words. Essex County Council chooses not to accept it at any of its recycling centres, which is a site policy rather than a criminal ban on you carrying your own. What matters practically is the same either way: the tip will turn you away, so you need either the council's own collection scheme or a licensed contractor.
Can I take an asbestos garage roof down myself?
There is no law stopping a householder taking down their own cement garage roof. The risk is breaking a sheet while you do it, which is what actually releases fibres, and the waste still has to be disposed of correctly afterwards. See how disposal actually works if you have already taken it down.
How quickly can someone come out in Essex?
Send a photo and a postcode and you will get a straight answer on timing along with the quote. We do not publish a fixed turnaround because access and the size of the job change it too much to promise a number in advance.
