What we remove and collect
Artex & textured ceilings
Swirled, stippled or combed coatings on ceilings and walls, and the plasterboard behind them. It is the one most people find part-way through a job, when a ceiling comes down and everything stops. We take the coating and the boarding away together.
Floor tiles & bitumen
Old vinyl or thermoplastic floor tiles and the black tar-like glue underneath. Lifted and bagged.

Asbestos cannot go in the household bin, it cannot go in a skip, and most tips will not accept it loose. We collect it properly, and we handle the paperwork that has to travel with it.

Booked to a day that suits you. We sheet up and damp it down so nothing goes into the air, take it out in whole pieces, and sweep the site before we leave. The paperwork proves where it went.

A hazardous waste consignment note by email. Keep it with the property’s documents: it is what a buyer’s solicitor will ask for when you come to sell.
The things people ask us first
Is it safe to stay in the house until you come?
The risk comes from disturbing it, not from it sitting where it has always been. Do not drill it, sand it, cut it, or sweep up broken pieces.
If something is already broken, shut the door on that room, keep children and pets out of it, and call us.
How do I know whether what I have got is asbestos?
Often you cannot tell by looking, and we would rather you did not find out by breaking a piece off. If it is old and you are not sure, work on the basis that it is asbestos until somebody tells you otherwise.

What does it cost?
It depends on how much there is, how easy it is to get to, and the disposal charge for hazardous waste. That is why we price from a photo and a postcode rather than from a price list.
Ask and you will get a figure rather than a range.
Can I put it in a skip, or take it to the tip myself?
Not in a skip, and not in your household bin. And in this part of the country, not at the tip either. Essex County Council states that asbestos "is not accepted at any Essex County Council recycling centre or in your kerbside collection", and Thurrock Council states that you cannot dispose of asbestos at its Linford recycling centre.
Essex does let residents request a collection of asbestos from their own household, so if you are in Essex, ask the council first. Thurrock runs no such scheme and tells residents to find a private site. Check your own council before you load anything into a car.

One of the most-asked questions in this trade, and we cannot answer it honestly until we know how these jobs actually run: whether occupants are asked to leave a room, the property, or neither, and whether that differs for a ceiling, a floor and an outdoor roof.

Whatever it turns out to be, tell us
Most of what we are asked about is cement, textured coating or floor tile, which our own team handles directly. A few materials are more delicate. Either way, send a photo or let us come and look, and we will tell you what it is and what needs doing.

Sprayed coating, pipe and boiler lagging, insulating board and loose fill
These need more care than cement or tiles. If a job like this needs somebody with a licence, we will tell you that too, and what to look for when you are choosing one.

Worth knowing
Anything in a loft, and anything in a soffit
Cement sheet and insulating board are visually identical in both places. Nobody gets a price for a loft or a soffit until somebody has actually looked at it, in person, which is still a captured enquiry, it is just not a same-call quote.
