Cement sheeting, Artex, floor tiles, gutters and water tanks are ours directly. Havering's own advice to residents is not to attempt asbestos repair or removal themselves and to use a trained specialist, which is exactly the line we work to for sprayed coatings, pipe or boiler lagging and asbestos insulating board: send a photo or let us come and look, and we will tell you plainly if it needs somebody with a licence, and what to look for when you are choosing one. Soffits and anything in a loft do not get a price until someone has actually looked.

What Havering will take
Havering's own page, re-checked 13 Sep 2026, is more permissive than some neighbouring councils. In its own words:
- Havering will accept asbestos from residents at Gerpins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre.
- You need to contact the centre before you arrive, for advice on how to wrap and transport it safely.
- The council separately notes that the City of London Corporation provides a collection service for wrapped asbestos to London boroughs.
- Homeowners are pointed toward an approved remover on the Buy With Confidence website; council tenants go through the Ask Housing form; private renters are told it is their landlord’s duty.
We are not the council and cannot book Gerpins Lane on your behalf. If what you have is small enough to take yourself, that route may be all you need.

Can I dispose of asbestos myself?
Removing bonded cement yourself is not against the law, but the waste still has to go through a proper route afterwards. In Romford that means Havering's Gerpins Lane centre, arranged in advance, or a collection like ours.
Can I take asbestos to the local tip?
In Havering, yes, at Gerpins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre, but only if you contact the centre first for advice on wrapping and transport. That is a more open policy than some neighbouring councils run, so do not assume it applies if you are actually just over the border in Essex.
Is it illegal to remove asbestos roof sheets?
No blanket law stops a householder taking down their own cement roof sheets. The practical risk is breaking a sheet while doing it, which is what actually releases fibres, and the waste then has to be disposed of correctly.
How much does it roughly cost to remove asbestos?
