- Who actually collects it
- The council arranges this through the City of London Corporation's Hazardous Waste Unit, not through its own depot.
- What it costs
- Free for up to 15 square metres of asbestos sheeting, wrapped individually in thick polythene, or up to five half-filled sealed bags. Beyond that, the Hazardous Waste Unit needs contacting directly for a price.

Cement sheeting, with care
The council's own guidance allows a householder to remove asbestos cement products, such as a corrugated garage roof, if it is soaked thoroughly first, undone and lifted with hand tools rather than power tools, never broken up with a hammer or dropped from a height, and handled in a well ventilated area with washable over-clothing, bare skin washed afterwards, and a dust mask rated for asbestos worn if a large piece has to be broken. Small pieces should be soaked and swept into strong plastic sacks and sealed, and the council is explicit that you should not vacuum them up. That is the material we handle every day.
Soft asbestos and sprayed coatings, not attempted
The same page is explicit that soft asbestos, insulating board and sprayed coatings should be dealt with by an HSE licensed specialist, not tackled by a resident. We agree. Cement, coatings, tiles and the more delicate materials too
Cement sheeting, Artex, floor tiles, gutters and water tanks are ours directly. Sprayed coatings, pipe or boiler lagging and asbestos insulating board need more care. Soffits and anything in a loft do not get a price until someone has actually looked, because cement sheet and insulating board look identical there.

Can I get asbestos removed for free?
Not from us, but Croydon Council's own scheme genuinely is free for up to 15 square metres of sheeting or five half-filled bags, arranged through the City of London Corporation. If your job fits that, it is worth trying before you call anyone.
Is it safe to bury asbestos in my garden?
No. Asbestos is hazardous waste wherever it ends up, and burying it does not change that. It has to go through a proper disposal route, whether that is the council's collection or a collection like ours.
Do you legally have to declare asbestos when selling a house?
There is no blanket duty on a private seller to remove asbestos before marketing a property. A buyer's surveyor will often flag it during their own survey, which is why some sellers deal with it beforehand rather than during a sale.
